"The goal for everyone should be to create as many options as possible, enabling you to make the best choices at any stage of your life." I relate a lot with your experience and ultimate goal is not the title you get is the many options you create based on your life expectations, goal, and mission.
This quote hit home for me too. As a soloprenuer who constantly get asks why I left FT product work, my response is that "I didn't" and "who knows what lays ahead... with the right company/role, never say never" .. Thanks for continuing to inspire Elena!
Congrats on the move! Would be great to hear your perspectives on transitioning back to full time. Optionality is awesome, life and careers are never straight lines.
Thank you for sharing Elena! Funnily, I believe to see so many parallels between your story and my path so far. Currently a happy solo-camper, I am quite curious where this path leads me. Gaining a flexible mindset, asking myself "what is the worst thing that can happen" and relaxing with the answer that one can adapt to any circumstances, has helped me a lot in the course of the ups and downs. If you ever come Switzerland, please reach out, would love to invite you for coffee/drinks/dinner. Cheers and all the best in the new role!
"Careers aren't linear." Love this line. Having hopped back and forth between both part-time and full-time roles, what is a good fit for one's career, life, and goals evolves over time. This flexibility to move fluidly between paradigms is in itself a strength.
Congratulations on your new role! Can't wait to keep following your journey
This struck a cord with me! I'm getting to a point where I could use a break (after 14 years in consumer product roles ... save me) and this is a great reminder that there are many different paths to travel and the ability to "come back" should I choose to 🙏🏻
Love this, Elena! Especially how you describe this concept of productizing yourself. Right now my main SKU is head of marketing roles for creator economy/web3 companies, but I'd really love to help people who are unhappy in their FT jobs navigate this major career shift we've both made - productizing their skills and building a more resilient career.
Your story is particularly inspiring to me. If you're open to chatting through how I might help others on journeys similar to yours, I'd love to connect and chat!
Congrats! Going into interim roles seems like a great idea- de-risking both for you and the company. I wonder how widespread this practice is. Is it something only companies in the Valley / VC-backed do?
Well done and said, Elena! One's career (and life) is a non-linear journey, and it is better being open along the way to opportunity rather than fixating on one end game, as you note. Serendipity plays a role in presenting those opportunities, and if you're not listening or paying attention, you might miss great growth experiences! You will enjoy working with my former colleague and CCO Eric Cox!
Thank you for sharing your insights and journey! As a full-time clinician and healthcare professional turned recent solopreuner in the healthtech product world (due to the many reasons you mentioned), this resonated with me SO much! So many nuggets of wisdom. Glad you shared your experiences and thought processes with us and found a job which is a great fit, that encouraged you back into the FT world out of choice, rather than necessity. I’ve been thinking along the lines of “treating myself as a product” and you explained the analogy beautifully. Looking forward to reading more and keeping up with your journey.

As someone who just started the Freelancer role after years of FT. Thank you. This is what I needed to hear.
And all the best at Dropbox!
Your journey from solopreneur to your current role is truly remarkable. Thank you for sharing.
